Our Agra tour packages take you to the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and to the forts, tombs and bazaars of India’s great Mughal city. This guide tells you what to see, when to go, how to get there and which tour suits you best.
Agra is part of the famous Golden Triangle tour with Delhi and Jaipur. You can visit on a same day Agra tour from Delhi, or stay overnight and see the Taj Mahal at sunrise. Shamrock Journeys, a trusted India tour operator, plans every trip with a private car, driver and local guide.
Why Visit Agra
Agra was the capital of the Mughal Empire in the 16th and 17th centuries. The emperors Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan left behind some of the finest Mughal architecture in the world. That is why Agra tour packages are among the most popular India tour packages.
- Three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri.
- Easy to reach: about three to four hours from Delhi by road, and less by fast train.
- Rich Mughal heritage: tombs, gardens, mosques and marble craft that is still made by hand today.
- Good for every traveller: families, couples on honeymoon, history lovers and photographers.
Top Places to Visit in Agra
Most Agra tour packages cover these famous places.
Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is a white marble tomb built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is the most visited monument in India. Sunrise is the best time to visit, when the light is soft and the crowds are small. The Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays.
Agra Fort
Agra Fort is a huge red sandstone fort on the Yamuna River. The Mughal emperors lived and ruled from here. Inside you will find marble palaces, audience halls and the tower where Shah Jahan spent his last years looking at the Taj Mahal.
Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah (Baby Taj)
This small marble tomb is often called the Baby Taj. It was built before the Taj Mahal and is known for its delicate stone inlay work. It is quiet and peaceful, and many visitors call it a hidden gem.
Mehtab Bagh
Mehtab Bagh is a Mughal garden across the river from the Taj Mahal. It is the best place for a sunset view of the Taj and a favourite spot for photos.
Akbar’s Tomb at Sikandra
The tomb of Emperor Akbar stands in a large garden about 10 km from the city. Its grand gateway mixes red sandstone and white marble.
Fatehpur Sikri
Fatehpur Sikri is Akbar’s abandoned Mughal city, about 40 km from Agra. See the Buland Darwaza, the Jama Masjid and the tomb of Salim Chishti. It is an easy stop on the road to Jaipur.
More Things to Do in Agra
